Creating ideal conditions for glue-down vinyl
To ensure successful floor installation, preparation is key. We share what you should keep in mind.
- Vinyl is a thermoplastic material – which means that its shape can change slightly under significant temperature fluctuations. It contracts in cold conditions and expands in heat. For this reason, we recommend bringing the vinyl planks into the target room 24 hours prior to actual installation. This allows the material to acclimate.
- Old floor coverings such as linoleum, rubber, laminate, and carpet must unfortunately be completely removed. These floors are not suitable as a base for glue-down vinyl.
- In addition, the substrate must be properly prepared. Due to the low installation height of glue-down vinyl, the elastic material adapts precisely to its contact surface. As a result, even the smallest unevenness stands out and disrupts the overall picture. Therefore, level out any elevations of any kind before laying the glue-down vinyl.
- Remove dust, grease, and oil. Dirt prevents the adhesive from bonding with the substrate and stops the plank resting on top from gaining the necessary hold.
What should I keep in mind when installing glue-down vinyl?
When installing glue-down vinyl, besides substrate preparation, accuracy is paramount.
- The vinyl elements adhere excellently to screed and self-leveling screed. Installation on existing PVC flooring is also possible.
- To calculate the required amount of material, multiply room length by room width plus approx. 10 percent wastage.
- Information on the installation direction can be found in the included product description. Usually, there is an arrow on the glue-down vinyl plank.
- Determine the center point of the room by drawing a transverse and a longitudinal line across the room. The intersection of both lines serves as the center point of the room. Begin installation from there.
- Please remove excess adhesive on the tiles immediately using a cloth and clean water. Caution! Do not wipe with water in the joint area until the adhesive has fully set (approx. after 72 hours).
At Parkett Hinterseer, in addition to glue-down vinyl, you will also find parquet and decking boards.
