Two-layer parquet: the golden mean between solid and finished parquet

Two-layer parquet combines the advantages of solid parquet and multilayer parquet with each other. As the name already indicates, this parquet variant consists of two layers. The floor covering consists of a visible top layer and a carrier layer. Opt for high-quality two-layer parquet from Parkett Hinterseer. Convince yourself of the capabilities of the parquet variant. Whether untreated, lacquered, oiled, made of oak, beech, ash, walnut, maple or even bamboo - the versatile parquet flooring provides a homely ambience in every room.

How is two-layer parquet constructed?

The two layers are firmly bonded together. Under the top layer of solid wood is the carrier layer. Since the carrier material is not visible, its appearance is irrelevant. The substructure is selected based on its properties. The respective carrier material is responsible for the durability and stability of the parquet flooring. Multi-layer plywood or cross-glued softwood or hardwood is used as the carrier layer. In this way, you can also choose a rather soft wood for the top layer and still get sufficient resistance due to the robust carrier wood.

The second layer is also responsible for the fact that the solid wood is restricted in its freedom of movement. The natural material wood works continuously. Depending on the humidity in the air, it expands or contracts. The lower layer absorbs this movement and thus reduces the warping of the parquet.

Two-layer parquet: Always a good idea

One of the great characteristics of two-layer parquet is the stability achieved by the structure. The two layers limit the work of the wood. This way your floor keeps its shape and you benefit from a low joint formation. Since a two-layer parquet is always laid glued to the subfloor, the third layer is actually the screed.

Daily use of the soil naturally leaves traces. You have the possibility to renovate the flooring several times. Depending on use, maintenance and room climate, you can enjoy your high-quality parquet floor for generations. Double-layer parquet is ideally suited for installation on a warm water underfloor heating system. Due to the low construction height, the heat is optimally conducted through the parquet. When making your choice, please pay attention to the information on whether the desired floor covering is suitable for underfloor heating.

How is two-layer parquet laid?

Double-layer parquet is laid with adhesive over the entire surface - floating installation is not possible. Although this type of laying is more demanding than the click system, it can definitely be implemented by talented hobby do-it-yourselfers. Before you start the installation, check that the subfloor is dry, crack-free, even and clean. Do not remove the parquet elements from the packaging until just before installation. If you have an even colour pattern in mind, you can open several packages. In this way you can sort the elements according to structure and colour before laying. After laying, avoid stepping on the parquet floor for approx. 12 hours, as the adhesive hardens from its pasty consistency and there is a risk of tearing off under load. Therefore, please lay the last strip of parquet the next day or lay the beginning of the parquet laying in such a way that you can leave the room through the door without having to walk on the freshly laid parquet.
