Boatboard style parquet: installation and construction

Ship floors are available as multilayer parquet as well as solid parquet. The parquet type consists of staggered bar elements next to each other. The three-layer parquet can also inexperienced amateur DIYers in no time with the help of a practical click system  lay. The top layer of the multilayer parquet in ship's bottom look also consists of two to three rows of solid wood strips. Depending on which model you choose, the surface is either oiled or lacquered. Underneath is a carrier board made of solid wood rods glued across the top layer. To ensure that the plank retains its shape and withstands the stresses, the bottom layer forms a counter-base of real wood veneer.

Preferences of the ship floor

The installation method, which resembles a ship deck, has many advantages to show. A big plus is that your premises are given optically more length. Thus, any room, no matter how small, is stretched. PARAT® and Floor-Art® marine floors are easy to install, hygienic, warm to the feet, dimensionally stable and a perfect fit. When installing the floor, you have comparatively little waste. The irregular joints are perfect for an open bond. Lay plank to plank and use the leftover piece from one row as the starting piece for the next. After all, a ship's floor is characterized by its irregularities. Bring the rugged look of a ship deck into your living area, too. Furniture, whether rustic or modern, will be further enhanced by the floor.

What is the difference between ship deck parquet and a wide plank?

The two parquet variants differ in terms of the size of their elements. Whereas with ship's bottom parquet there are always several staggered bars per plank, with the country house plank there is only one bar per plank. In terms of quality, the two options take nothing from each other. It is merely a matter of taste which look appeals to you more.

The proper care of lacquered and oiled parquet floors

In order for you to enjoy your beautiful parquet floor for a long time, the right care is the be-all and end-all. Depending on whether you choose shipboard parquet with an oiled or lacquered surface, there are differences in terms of care:

Oiled

To protect your flooring from dirt and moisture, regularly re-oil your shipboard parquet - we recommend once a year in living areas. To do this, first clean the parquet with a vacuum cleaner and wipe the floor damp with a mist. After the mopping water has evaporated, mop the floor with an appropriate care oil. This is easy to do, except that it takes a little longer to dry than if you mop with water. Maintenance cleaning is simply done by regular vacuuming and damp mopping, you determine the interval as needed. Alternatively, use a wood floor soap, which can contain both cleaning substances and caring oils and waxes.

Lacquered

Compared to oiled parquet floorboards, lacquered parquet already has a protective layer of environmentally friendly water-based lacquer. Clean the floor with cold water. For a little more shine, add PARAT® full care to the mopping water. For heavy soiling, use special PARAT® intensive cleaner. In general, please follow the care instructions in the download area.
